What to do with your old car?

You’ve seen the ads. The ones where car dealers are dancing on a calculator or you’re promised more money if you take the car to a mobile office on a car park.

All you have to do is upload your cars details and a price is pops back that looks great. It is a convincing argument that you can then go off and get a much better deal if you don’t have a part exchange. 

The problem is that it’s bogus.

Consider that all of those cars end up on a dealership forecourt somewhere, how?

The cars that you sell to Motorway or We Buy Any Car are immediately sold through one form of auction or another. The costs of this to the dealer can range between £400.00 to £900.00 depending on the cost of the car.

Naturally, on the day you come to sell the car you are going to have to meet a dealer that you’ve never met before. He or she is a professional and they are going to spot every blemish, every rattle and squeak. If you have missed something, they won’t, its business there are collection costs, fees and now additional work. You don’t know them, but there you are waiting for your money and the price has just dropped by several hundred pounds.

On average cars bought at auction, whether through one of the new online sites or the old mainstream auctions cost £650.00 in fees and costs over what you have eventually received, and that will not be what you expected if you miss a single mark. This is the amount you have lost.

Whatever you are told online, remember that is only the hook they use to catch you.

You can bet all dealers take account of those hefty fees and costs before they buy. Then consider this. Buyers are very thorough, but you know its easy to miss a mark that’s been there for years. Unfortunately, they won’t.  They need cars in pristine condition and won’t accept less, and to be absolutely fair nor would you!
